ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Shannon Pugh was born at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, TX. She spent her childhood in Alaska, Louisiana, and California. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and History with a minor in humanities at Midwestern State University. Ms. Pugh followed her BA with a Master of Arts in Political Science. In 1994 she joined Teach for America and was stationed in the Mississippi Delta where she taught 7th and 8th grade history. During this time she completed her teacher certification requirements through courses completed at the University of Mississippi and Mississippi Valley State University. In 1997 she moved to Dallas and began teaching at W.T. White High School where she currently teaches AP European History, AP World History, and AP Art History. Ms. Pugh is certified in composite social studies (history, government, economics, psychology, and sociology), speech, educational technology, ESL, and art. In 2004, she earned a Master of Education Degree in Educational Administration from the University of North Texas. She was one of the first three Texas teachers certified by the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards in Social Studies. Ms. Pugh has presented at conferences at the local, state, and national level and is the past president of Dallas Council for the Social Studies. She is a frequent trainer of new teachers. She is actively involved with the Advanced Placement program and she serves as a reader for the AP World History Exam. She is the 2005 High School Teacher of the Year for Dallas Independent School District.
