ABOUT THE AUTHOR

William J. Kortz Jr. Ed.D., is a bilingual professor at the University of Houston Downtown where he teaches bilingual, ESL, alternative certification, and educational technology classes. He was previously a federal technology director for a distance learning initiative, The Texas Center for Academic Excellence, http://www.shsu.edu/~txcae. He served as a public school bilingual teacher, grades 3-5, and ESL teacher/coordinator, grades K-12. Presently, he serves as an awarded member of the TExES Committee for Teacher Certification at UHD as well as alternative certification committee. His areas of expertise include technology in curriculum, bilingual, ESL, elementary generalist, and pedagogy and professional development.

Vickie Hester, Ph.D., is a certified Texas educator with advanced degrees in language and writing. Dr. Hester believes in the Pass the TExES program. Using these strategies,she scored in the 90th percentile on all her TExES examinations. She currentlyserves as a classroom teacher and editor of the Kids Writing Connection, a DallasI.S.D. publication for fledgling authors.

Vicki Green, M.Ed., is a dedicated classroom educator who holds seven Texas certifications, ranging from elementary education to English as a Second Language. As a Master Reading Teacher, she is committed to quality instruction and believes all students and teachers can succeed in a supportive, nurturing environment. Ms. Green believes in the Pass the TExES program because, she says, "It assists future educators who are on the path to making a positive difference in young lives."
